More Information About George V Three Pence's
The Three Pence was first struck in 1551 during the Reign of Edward VI and was struck intermittently through the 16th and 17th centuries. After the Great Re coinage the Three Pence was struck for Maunday Coinage and some for Colonial use. Demand eventually meant that in 1845 the Three Pence was struck for circulation in Britain. The silver Three Pence continued to be struck for circulation in Britain until it was replaced during the Reign of George VI with the Brass Three Pence.

George V Three Pence's were struck from 1911 until 1936. Their were three different types struck due to differing alloys and design. The first type was made of .925 Silver and used the traditional Crowned 3 on the reverse. The second type used the same design but had its silver content was reduced to .500 Silver. The third type had a new design for the reverse made up of three Oak leafs and Acorns.

    Obverse .925 Type
The obverse was designed by Edgar Bertram MacKennal. In keeping with the old tradition George's portrait faces to the left, in the opposite direction to his predecessor. George V portrait depicts him bare headed with no Crown.

    Reverse .925 Type
The reverse device is the traditional Crowned 3 used on Three Pences.
